Governor Yusuf Mourns Veteran Journalist, Aliyu Abubakar Getso

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Aliyu Abubakar Getso, a veteran journalist and respected media practitioner.

Governor Yusuf described his passing as a monumental loss to the journalism profession and to Kano State in general.

In a condolence message issued by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Governor said the late Aliyu Abubakar Getso was a distinguished professional whose work greatly contributed to the growth of journalism, information dissemination, and public enlightenment in the state and beyond.

Governor Yusuf noted that the deceased was known for his professionalism, integrity, and commitment to ethical journalism, which earned him the respect of colleagues and media stakeholders across Nigeria.

The late Aliyu Abubakar Getso served the media industry diligently for many years. 

He worked as an editor at Freedom Radio, contributed immensely to Vision FM and Premier Radio Kano, and also served at the Kano State Ministry of Information.

He was a dedicated member and former State Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), where he played an active role in promoting press freedom, professional excellence, and the welfare of media practitioners. 

He was also a mentor to many journalists, who benefited from his guidance, wisdom, and generosity of spirit.

Governor Yusuf prayed Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, reward his good deeds, and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, while also praying that the family finds the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
